Interestingly enough, I really dislike circuity. And most of Jon’s songs. And I wasn’t much of a fan of his character.
That being said, Bands in general are in a interesting position for professionalism. They don’t have clients, they have an audience. They can have any behaviors they want as long as it doesn’t offend their audience. They don’t have to appeal to clients or hold a professional image. And I think that’s probably why I felt so reactionary to Bunny’s post- the creative professional community I’m in now is pretty lax, but is also invested in making sure one gives off an air of professionalism and accountability.
I’ve been made aware that Bunny does have reason to hold a grudge in this situation, and the nature of her work allows for her to not have to hold back. I think it’s rude to be dismissive of someone who helped you get where you are- but Bunny’s situation, her job, makes it so that she doesn’t have to self-censor her feelings on the subject.
I think the most insulting thing in all of this, isn’t that someone is going out of their way to find grief from us towards Jon in things we say, it’s the assumption from fans that we’re just assholes.
We’ve never slandered Jon, and we talk about him all the time and stuff at panels. Saying we didn’t like this song or that is our own individual opinions, but we don’t bring up Jon like it’s the plague or it’s unspeakable.
That’s far from the truth. He was a part of the act, and we started the group out with him.
It changed early on, and people left before him…and years after that unfortunetly it wasn’t jiving between him and the other members.
Yeah it sucks, and no body wins, but it was best for everyone involved.
Not for the fans of course, but that’s just the relationship.
Being disrespectful to him is not something we’ve ever set out to do, and in fact we’ve gone out of our way to keep everything private about the whole situation as much as possible. It’s easy to talk trash, anyone can do that and it requires no extensive knowledge of a person.
The issue here is someone looking into things because they assume there are harsh feelings towards a past member of the group from a current member to the extent that said person would go out of their way to poke, jab, and prod at them.
Hey, I like a lot of Jon’s songs.
I am not out to hate on him.
I am in contact with him a bit just from a business stand point, royalties, and all that, but I am happy to even have that relationship with him.
But just to show you we’re as honest as possible without intentionally being assholes….
Jon’s a great guy and made a lot of people happy.
But I hate Circuitry, I hate it now, and I hated it when he threw it on the table for us to see three days before we sent the album off for production. I also dislike Please Explain, and Turn Back the Clock.
What of it?
Jon has hated tons of our songs.
Sam hates some songs.
We’re a group.
Let’s not make what is comfortable talking about for us an evil, negative, and slanderous thing.
That’s just spreading rumors that are based in your truths and not in ours. If I held any ounce of hatred to past members, I would be a completely different person than I am now. We all hold grudges to people…but do those grudges REALLY eat away at us in this group?
I don’t think so. It’s a working relationship, and we are all sensible and easy-going people in that respect.
Anywho, there’s my long-winded perspective.
Hope it helps. :/
Reading this amazing book. Havoc by Chris Wooding, I love it. I recommend it. Its the second book; a follow up to malice, also amazing. <3 (at Kewadin Village)
